In order for fire to occur there must be 3 elements present; oxygen, fuel and heat. If one of these elements is taken out then the fire will not be able to continue burning. When water is applied to a fire it blocks the oxygen supply and creates steam, cooling the burning fuel and helping to stop re-ignition.

Water Fire Extinguishers

Water extinguishers are suitable for use on class A type fires. Class A refers to fires which are fueled by solid materials such as wood, paper, straw and textiles. The typical sizes found within the range of water fire extinguishers are 3, 6 and 9ltr. Some water fire extinguishers contain an additive. The additive makes the extinguisher safe for use if water is accidentally discharged on to live electrical equipment. Models which contain this additive are also known as “Ecojet” or “Hydrospray” extinguishers. The water extinguishes the fire by removing the heat.
