Wet chemical fire extinguishers are the newest type of fire extinguisher around and are capable of smothering highly dangerous cooking fat fires (Class F). They are the only fire extinguisher capable of this. Wet chemical fire extinguishers are also capable of extinguishing flammable solid and flammable liquid fires. Insurance companies and the fire service recommend the use of wet chemical extinguishers in any premises using deep fat fryers and chip pans, e.g. fast food outlets, fish and chip shops, burger vans, restaurants, cafes, canteens etc. A feature of this type of extinguisher is that they are able to extinguish cooking fat fires progressively so no risk of splashing occurs. The liquid cools and smothers the fire in a surponification process which depletes oxygen to the fire and prevents risk of re – ignition. This feature is unique to the wet chemical extinguisher.
Wet chemical fire extinguishers are recognised by a canary yellow colour coding block on the body of the extinguisher.
Wet chemical fire extinguishers are sold by Nationwide Fire Extinguishers in 6 litre or 3 litre sizes. Both sizes of wet chemical fire extinguishers have the same class f fire rating (75A) so are capable of extinguishing the same size flammable deep fat fire. The 3 litre extinguisher has a lower class A and B rating but is great for smaller kitchens. The 3 litre model is a non standard size hence not kitemarked at present, however, it is manufactured in accordance with EN3 and CE approved model of fire extinguisher from a recognised and respected brand manufactured in the UK. The 6 litre model is standard size, manufactured with EN3 and CE approval and kitemarked.
Nationwide fire extinguishers only sell equipment which is manufactured to British Standard BS EN3 and all standard size equipment is kitemarked so you can rest assured that although our products are the cheapest around, we do not compromise on quality or safety.
