A responsible person should carry out an assessment of your workplace to decide what first aid equipment is required. The minimum degree of first aid equipment is a properly stocked first aid kit. There are many varieties and depending on the type of industry you are in, you may also need a first aid kit for burns or an emergency eye wash kit. If mains tap water is not readily available for eye irrigation, at least one litre of sterile water or sterile normal saline (0.9%) in sealed, disposable containers should be provided.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has two different types of regulations, universal and explicit, which relate to emergency eye wash equipment. The first, states: “Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use.”
The second type of directive applies to particular industries which do the following: “Activities Utilising an Open Surface Tank, Storage and Handling of Anhydrous Ammonia, Powered Industrial Trucks, Pulp, Paper and Paperboard Manufacturing, Telecommunications, and Hazardous Materials.”
These two types of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations specify when and where emergency eye wash and shower equipment must be available.
Our emergency eye wash kits are great for use in any location. Our kit includes 2 x 500ml bottles of sterile eyewash solution, 2 x sterile eye pad dressings for treating wounds.
Nationwide Fire Extinguishers eye wash kits have a hinged case which includes bottle stabilisers to hold its contents firmly in place. The moulded plastic wall cabinet has an integral wall bracket, and folds out into a self supporting workbench to allow the kit to be opened and worked with on the bracket.
